Okay, so, I’ve been working on this project for a while, and I finally got it done. It’s a remake of the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy, but it was totally worth it.

I started by gathering all the materials I needed. This was a bit of a pain, honestly. Finding the right parts took some serious digging. I spent hours online, scouring through different suppliers. I really wanted to get this right, so I was super picky about the quality.

Once I had everything, the real work began. I disassembled a donor watch I picked up to get a feel for the mechanics. Then, I carefully started to put together the 5711. This involved a lot of tweaking and adjusting. Some parts just didn’t want to cooperate at first, you know? A real headache, but part of the process.

  • First, I worked on the case. Getting the shape and the finish just right was crucial. I polished and polished until it had that signature Nautilus gleam.
  • Next, the dial. Man, that was tricky. I had to make sure all the markers and hands were perfectly aligned. My eyes were definitely strained after that.
  • Then came the movement. This was the most challenging part, hands down. I assembled it piece by piece, following some guides I found online. Lots of tiny screws and delicate parts.

Finally, after many late nights and a few frustrated moments, I assembled the bracelet. Getting those links to fit together seamlessly was another challenge, but I eventually got it. I added some polish. Seeing the whole thing come together was an amazing feeling.

The end result? A pretty darn good-looking remake of the 5711. It’s not perfect, of course, but I’m really proud of it. It keeps time well and looks fantastic on my wrist. I even wear it out sometimes, and I’ve gotten a few compliments.

What I Learned

This whole project taught me a lot about watchmaking. It’s way more complicated than it looks! It also showed me the value of patience and persistence. When things got tough, I just kept pushing through. And the feeling of accomplishment at the end was totally worth all the effort. This watch is just amazing. I did it!
