Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the open case back, for a while now. I finally decided to pull the trigger and get it. Let me tell you, it was quite the process.
First, I started digging around online, trying to find the best deal. I checked out a bunch of different websites, reading reviews, comparing prices, all that jazz. I knew I wanted the version with the see-through back, which I learned is the 311.30.42.30.01.006 model. They also have a model with a solid, engraved back, the 311.30.42.30.01.005, but that’s not what I was after.
I found a listing for a new one, made in 2024, with the original box and papers. The price was around $6,470, which seemed pretty standard from what I could tell. But I also looked at some used ones, which were a bit cheaper. I even stumbled across a vintage case back, reference number 145022-69 ST. It was tempting, but I really wanted a new watch.
After a lot of back and forth, I decided to go with the new one. I mean, it’s a big purchase, so I wanted to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. Plus, it’s got the new redesigned case back, which is supposed to be thinner than ever before.
The ordering process was pretty straightforward. I placed the order online, provided my details, and paid for it. Then came the waiting game, which is always the hardest part! Luckily, it didn’t take too long, and soon enough, the watch arrived at my doorstep. It was carefully packaged in a nice Omega box with documents, protecting its condition.
Opening the box was like Christmas morning. The watch was even more beautiful in person than it was in the pictures. The 42mm case size is perfect, although I learned the bezel is actually a tad smaller, around 39.7mm. And that open case back… man, it’s a thing of beauty. You can see all the intricate details of the movement inside, which I found out is the Caliber 1861. I guess the older models had the Caliber 861. It’s cool to know little details like that.
I’ve been wearing the watch for a few days now, and I’m absolutely in love with it. It’s a classic for a reason, and I can see myself wearing it for many years to come.

Anyway, that’s my story of buying the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. It was a bit of a journey, but definitely worth it in the end. If you’re thinking about getting one, I say go for it! You won’t regret it.
