Okay, here is a blog post detailing my experience:
Let me tell you about the time I decided to remake a Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001. It all started when I saw this Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001 online. Man, that rose gold was shining, and those diamonds around the dial? This was one good-looking watch! This one was a ladies’ model, but I just liked that cushion shape.
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some materials. I managed to find some decent 18k rose gold. Getting the right shape was a bit of a pain, but I eventually got it right. Then came the diamonds – 108 of them, to be exact. I spent hours setting them around the dial, just like the original. It was tedious, but seeing it come together was worth it.
Movement
- Caliber 215 PS: This was the movement used in the original, so I tried my best to replicate it. Small seconds, 18 jewels – the whole shebang. I’m not gonna lie; it was tough. Getting all those tiny parts to work together was a real challenge.
- Manual Wind: Just like the original, I made sure this one was a manual wind. There’s just something satisfying about winding a watch yourself.
I hit a few bumps along the way. There was this one time I messed up the case pretty badly and had to start over. But hey, that’s part of the process, right? You learn from your mistakes and keep going.
After a lot of trial and error, I finally finished it. When I put it side by side with pictures of the original, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It wasn’t perfect, but it was close enough for me. And the best part? I made it with my own two hands.
So, that’s the story of how I remade a Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001. It was a wild ride, but I’m glad I did it. I learned a lot, and now I have a pretty cool watch to show for it. Until next time, folks!
