Okay, guys, so, I’ve been getting into watches lately, and you know how it is, one thing leads to another and boom, you’re obsessed. I really wanted to get this particular watch, the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the Sapphire version. Let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey, but I’m super stoked to finally have it on my wrist. Let me tell you the whole story.
It all started a few months back. I was just browsing online, looking at watches, and I stumbled upon this beauty. I mean, the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, it’s iconic, right? The history, the connection to space and NASA, it all just drew me in. The thing that caught my eye was that there were two main versions, one with the Hesalite crystal, and one with the sapphire crystal. And I made my decision to get the sapphire one. After checking online, the sapphire one looked a little bit shinier, a bit more modern and I just thought it was cooler than the Hesalite one. And for me, the main thing is, sapphire is way more scratch-resistant. That was very important to me. I made up my mind I was gonna get that sapphire Speedmaster.
The Hunt Begins
First, I did some research. I read a bunch of articles and forum posts, watched a ton of videos, comparing the two versions. The Hesalite one is more “traditional,” more like the original Moonwatch, I guess, and the sapphire model is the “modern” take, with the see-through caseback. But the sapphire’s scratch resistance is a big plus for me, so I decided to go for it. It’s nicknamed the “Sapphire Sandwich” because of the sapphire crystal on both sides, which is kinda cool.
Finding the Perfect One
Next step, finding one. This wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I checked out some online stores, but a lot of them were out of stock. I even contacted a few authorized dealers, but no luck. It seemed like everyone wanted this watch! I started to get a little discouraged, to be honest. I mean, I had my heart set on this specific model. I almost gave up to be honest. I was like, “maybe this is a sign,” you know? “Maybe I’m not meant to have this watch.” But then, I thought, “Nah, I’m not giving up that easy.”
Persistence Pays Off
I kept searching, kept calling around. Finally, I found a specialty store that had one in stock! It was a bit of a drive, but I didn’t care. I called them up, confirmed they had it, and I was out the door. The feeling of relief when they said they had one, man, I cannot express that feeling. I was really happy that day.
Getting My Hands on It
When I got to the store, I was like a kid in a candy shop. I tried on the watch, and it was even better in person than in pictures. The way the light hit the sapphire crystal, the details on the dial, the weight of it on my wrist, everything was just perfect. I knew I had to have it. The whole experience at the store was great, by the way. The staff was super helpful, they answered all my questions, and they even gave me a little history lesson on the Speedmaster. I learned a ton! These guys were great.
The Purchase and Beyond
So, I bought it! I swiped my card, and it was mine. Walking out of the store with that iconic OMEGA box in my hand, I felt like I was on top of the world. Since then, I’ve been wearing it almost every day. I love how it looks, how it feels, and the history behind it. I actually spent hours reading about the Apollo missions, I never cared about space exploration that much, but this watch really got me into it.
It’s not just a watch, it’s a conversation starter. I’ve had so many people ask me about it, and I love telling them the story of how I got it and the history of the Speedmaster.
If you’re thinking about getting a Speedmaster, I highly recommend it. And if you’re on the fence between the Hesalite and the sapphire, well, it’s a tough choice. But for me, the sapphire was the way to go. It’s just a beautiful, well-made watch, and I’m so glad I finally got my hands on one.
Anyway, that’s my story. Hope you guys enjoyed it. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or if you have your own Speedmaster story to share! I’d love to hear about it.
