Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the sapphire version, for a while now. It’s a pretty cool watch, you know? I finally decided to pull the trigger and get one. Let me tell you about the whole process.
First off, I did some digging around. I knew I wanted the Moonwatch because, well, it’s the Moonwatch! It was famously used throughout the Apollo missions. I mean, who wouldn’t want a piece of that history on their wrist? But there are a couple of different versions. I went with the sapphire one mainly because I’m a bit clumsy and heard it’s more scratch-resistant. It wasn’t because the material is special but about the usage.
Then came the fun part – actually getting the watch. I found a good deal and ordered it. When that box finally arrived, man, it was exciting! Unboxing it felt like a special occasion. This thing is 42mm in diameter, which is a good size for my wrist – not too big, not too small, just right.
Now, about the movement. This baby has the Caliber 3861 movement. Apparently, it’s a big deal. They call it a “Master Chronometer” which sounds fancy. What I gathered is that it’s super accurate. They say it only gains or loses about 0 to 5 seconds per day. That’s insane! Plus, it can handle magnetic fields like a champ, up to 15,000 gauss. I don’t even know what that means, but it sounds impressive, right?
The other thing I learned about this movement is that it’s a hand-wound. Most of the modern Speedmasters have automatic movement, but this one has the traditional hand-wound. Also, it’s supposed to be more shock-resistant than the older movements, like the 1861, and it doesn’t need to be serviced as often. Oh, and the power reserve is longer too, by about two hours. So that’s cool.
I’ve been wearing this watch every day since I got it. It’s comfortable, it looks great, and honestly, it just makes me feel good. You should know that I have compared it with the Hesalite version of Speedmasters. It’s like a little piece of history on my wrist, and I’m pretty stoked about it. Plus, knowing it’s built to last and super accurate is just the icing on the cake. It’s a win-win situation for me to wear it.
