Today I want to share with you guys about my recent project, I remade a Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001. Sounds crazy, right? But trust me, it’s a fun ride.
First thing first, I started by gathering all the information I could find about this watch. The Gondolo 7041R-001, it’s a beauty. Rose gold, manual wind, a real classic. There is some information on internet, said this piece was going for around 29,000 US dollars, which is wild. I saw it’s a mechanical manual wind movement, caliber 215 PS, with small seconds and 18 jewels.
Then I started to find materials. I know the original is 18k rose gold. There’s even a “750” mark on the original gold watches, meaning it’s 75% pure gold. And the platinum ones have a “950” stamp. I did my best to find some decent rose gold for the case. The case is cushion-shaped, and I found some info saying it’s set with 108 diamonds around the dial, about 0.31 carats. I got similar shaped case.
Next part was the movement. I found a movement that’s similar in function, manual wind, small seconds. It was a bit of a headache, but I managed to fit it into the case.
Here’s a breakdown of what I did:
- Researched the heck out of the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001.
- Sourced materials, including the rose gold and a fitting movement.
- Assembled the watch, which was the trickiest part.
It took me a while, and there were definitely some frustrating moments. But in the end, I had a pretty decent remake of the Gondolo 7041R-001. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. And it definitely didn’t cost me 29,000 dollars!
The End Result
I wear it sometimes, and it feels good to know I made it with my own hands. It’s a great conversation starter, too. People ask about it, and I get to tell them the whole story. It’s a fun little project that turned out pretty well.
