Okay, so I saw this Prada Symbole Tote Bag at the official flagship store the other day, and I was like, “I gotta have it!” But then I saw the price tag, and I was like, “Yeah, no.” So, what’s a girl to do? I decided to try and remake it myself, of course!
First, I went to Joann’s because, you know, they have everything.
I wandered around the fabric section for a good hour, feeling all the different materials. I needed something that felt sturdy but also looked chic, just like the original bag. Finally, I found this amazing jacquard fabric that had a similar geometric pattern to the Symbole. Score!
- Bought the fabric, some sturdy lining, and matching thread.
- Rushed home, all excited to start.
Then came the tricky part – figuring out the pattern. I spent hours studying the pictures of the bag online, trying to understand how it was constructed. I even watched some YouTube videos on how to make tote bags, just to get the basics down.
Drafting and Cutting
After a lot of trial and error, I finally drafted a pattern that I thought would work. I carefully laid out the fabric and started cutting, following the lines I had drawn. Cutting the fabric is a job that requires patience, but I still did it.
I also cut out the lining fabric and some interfacing to give the bag more structure.
Sewing It Together
Next, I fired up my trusty sewing machine. I sewed the main pieces of the bag together, then added the lining. Sewing, I used some basic sewing skills. After the main body was done, I attached the handles, which I made from some leftover fabric.
Finally, after a few late nights and a lot of seam-ripping (oops!), the bag was finished!
The Final Result
Honestly, it turned out way better than I expected. It wasn’t an exact replica, of course, but it definitely had that Prada vibe. Plus, I made it myself, which made it even more special. I carried it around, and a lot of people asked me where I got it from. I just smiled and said, “Oh, this old thing? I made it myself.”
So, yeah, that’s the story of how I remade the Prada Symbole Tote Bag. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Maybe I’ll try to make another designer bag next. Who knows?
