Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Prada Arqué bag for a while, but the price tag? Ouch. So, I thought, why not try to make one myself? I mean, how hard could it be, right? Turns out, it’s a bit more involved than I initially thought, but totally worth it in the end.

Getting Started

First things first, I needed to gather all the materials. I already had some basic leatherworking tools, but I didn’t have any good leather. I found a place online that sells leather scraps, and I ordered a few pieces that looked like they would work. Also, I needed a zipper and a buckle, found some cool ones at a local craft store.

Figuring It Out

Next, I had to figure out how to actually put the bag together. It’s a pretty unique shape, so I spent a lot of time just staring at pictures of the original bag online, trying to understand the construction. The original is a shoulder bag, I decided to go with that too.

  • Cutting: I made a rough template out of paper first, then carefully traced it onto the leather and cut out the pieces. This part was a bit nerve-wracking because I didn’t want to mess up the leather, you know?
  • Sewing: This was the hardest part for me. I’m not a pro at sewing, especially not with leather. It’s so thick! I broke a few needles before I got the hang of it. But after some practice (and a lot of YouTube tutorials), I managed to sew the main body of the bag together.
  • Details: Once the main part was done, I added the zipper and the buckle. I also stitched on a small Prada-like logo I found online, just for fun.
  • Finishing: Then it was just a matter of adding some finishing touches, like a nice lining and some metal feet to protect the bottom.

The Final Product

Honestly, it took way longer than I expected, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s not exactly like the original Prada Arqué, but it’s got that same vibe, you know? And the best part is, I made it myself! Plus, I probably saved a ton of money. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but hey, that just adds to its charm. I even started thinking about customizing it further, maybe adding some charms or something. A friend told me that there’s this reseller of pre-owned bags from South Africa, might be fun to check it out. Anyway, it’s definitely a unique piece, and I can’t wait to start using it!

It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and that’s what makes it special. I learned a lot during this process, and I’m already thinking about my next project. Maybe a wallet? Or even another bag? Who knows! The possibilities are endless when you’re making things yourself.
