Okay, so I wanted to share my experience of recreating the PRADA Arqué Leather Shoulder Bag. This wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision. I’ve been eyeing this beauty for a while, and after a lot of back-and-forth, I decided to take the plunge and try to make one myself.
First things first, I started by gathering all the materials. Let me tell you, finding the right leather was a quest in itself. I went to a bunch of stores, felt a ton of different leathers, and finally settled on one that felt just right – not too stiff, not too soft, and with a nice, subtle grain. It’s important to get a good feel for the material because it makes or breaks the bag.
Then, the real work began. I spent hours poring over images of the original bag online. I studied the shape, the stitching, the hardware – basically every little detail. I even found some forums where people discussed the bag’s dimensions and construction. I also tried to find some images that mentioned the inspiration of the bag’s design came from PRADA’s archives. And I wanted to make something similar to this iconic bag.
With all that research done, I started drafting the pattern. This was tricky. I drew, erased, and redrew the pattern pieces countless times. I wanted to get it as close to the original as possible, but without actually having the bag in front of me, it was a bit of a guessing game. Finally, after what felt like forever, I had a pattern I was happy with.
Next up, cutting the leather. This was nerve-wracking! One wrong cut and the whole piece could be ruined. I took my time, measured everything twice, and carefully cut out each piece. Seeing the bag take shape, even just in pieces, was so satisfying.
Then came the stitching. I decided to hand-stitch the whole thing, because I really wanted that artisanal, handcrafted look. My fingers were definitely sore by the end, but it was worth it. There’s something so therapeutic about stitching, and seeing the bag come together stitch by stitch was amazing.

It was a lot of work, but it was such a rewarding experience. I learned so much throughout the process, and I ended up with a bag that I absolutely love.
My Honest Feeling
Honestly, it turned out better than I expected! I get so many compliments on it, and people are always surprised when I tell them I made it myself. It just goes to show that with a little bit of patience and a lot of hard work, you can create something really special. And I also did some research on how to buy or sell my own design and maybe make a living from it. It’s exciting! Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a fun challenge, but it was also a lot of work. I think I need a bit of a break before I tackle another big project like this!
