Alright, so today I’m gonna show y’all how I tried to remake the PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag. I’m no expert, but I thought it would be fun to try, and I’m here to share my journey, warts and all.
Getting Started
First off, I spent a good chunk of time just staring at pictures of the bag online. I needed to get a feel for the shape, the size, and all those little details. I found that this bag is a re-edition, meaning it’s a style Prada brought back from their archives.
Then, I started gathering materials. I went with this recycled nylon stuff because I saw that Prada calls it “Re-Nylon,” and it seemed like a big deal for them. I got some in black, of course. Also grabbed some leather for the accents and, of course, the “PRADA” plaque—gotta match the bag’s leather color, right? Also, note that “MILANO” not “MILAN” and “DAL 1913” are all in capital letters. Found a metal one that looked pretty close to the original.
The Process
- Cutting and Sewing: This was the tricky part. I’m not the best at sewing, but I took my time. I made a basic pattern based on the pictures and dimensions I could find online. Cut the nylon, cut the leather and started stitching things together. It was a lot of trial and error, let me tell you.
- The Chain and Details: I found a decent chain that looked similar enough to the original. Attaching it was another story, but eventually, I got it on there. The little keychain thing, I learned, it is kinda a signature for Prada’s Re-Edition bags, so I made sure to add that, too. And I found out that there should be a slight indent/notch in the ‘R’ in Prada on the Plaque.
- The Plaque: I messed up here a few times, not gonna lie. Getting the “PRADA” and “MILANO” and “DAL 1913” right, all in caps, and making sure the color matched the leather was harder than I thought. But I think I got it pretty close in the end.
- The Zipper: Not all versions of this bag have a zipper, but some do. I thought it added a nice touch, so I put one in. It’s a small detail, but it makes the bag feel more secure, you know?
- Shape and Structure: I saw online that the bag has a pretty square silhouette. It’s not super floppy. To get that look, I added some interfacing to the nylon to give it some stiffness. It’s not perfect, but it holds its shape okay.
The Result
Okay, so my version isn’t an exact replica. There are definitely some differences. But, for a homemade attempt, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s got the same vibe as the original, and I learned a lot along the way.
This whole thing was a fun challenge. It made me appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into these designer bags. Would I do it again? Maybe! But next time, I might try a simpler design first.
Anyway, that’s my story of remaking the PRADA Re-Edition 1995 bag. Hope you enjoyed hearing about my little adventure. If any of y’all have tried something similar, let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear about it.
